What’s the greatest Stevie Wonder song? In September, the Detroit Free Press posed that question with a 64-song bracket.
After two rounds of public polling and tens of thousands of votes cast, the field is down to 16 classic tunes by the iconic Motown star.
You can vote below for the songs that should advance to the quarterfinals.
If there’s any message from the Round of 32 — where the voting margins significantly tightened — the choices will only get tougher from here.
So far, life has been pretty easy for the No. 1 seeds: “Superstition,” “Signed Sealed Delivered I’m Yours,” “Sir Duke” and “Higher Ground.”
But the latest round did give us the first upset of a No. 2 seed. “I Wish,” a cornerstone track from Wonder’s “Songs in the Key of Life,” lost
to his buoyant 1974 hit “Don't You Worry 'bout a Thing,” a No. 7 seed that triumphed with 58% of the tally.
Meanwhile, another No. 2 seed — “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” — clocked the biggest blowout, grabbing 94% of the vote over No. 10 seed “Love Light in Flight.”
As for the tightest contest? Wonder’s 1971 hit “If You Really Love Me,” a Hitsville-era track we ranked as a No. 6 seed, nudged by 1980’s “Master Blaster (Jammin’),” a No. 3 seed. The matchup was tight: 51% to 49%.
So that bring us to the Stevie Wonder Round of 16. Cast your votes here:
