The ribbon cutting for the Gordie Howe International Bridge takes place in Windsor, Ont. on Friday July 24 and the span across the Detroit River opens to traffic Monday July 27, giving motorists three different options for driving the between two cities.
Here's a quick look at how much each will cost you in tolls.
Gordie Howe International Bridge
One way for a personal vehicle is $5.75 in U.S. dollars or $8 in Canadian. A personal vehicle with a trailer is $11.50 U.S. dollars or $16 Canadian. Passenger vehicles, large commercial trucks or oversized or hazardous vehicles are $8.75 per axle U.S. dollars or $12 Canadian. The bridge does have a discount program offering 25% off tolls.
Ambassador Bridge
One way for cars, buses or motorcycles, $10 in U.S. dollars, $14 in Canadian − unless you have a premier
pass, then it's $5.50 U.S. Cars, busses or motorcycles pulling a trailer are $20 U.S. dollars or $28 Canadian. Commercial vehicles up to 140,000 pounds $15 U.S. dollars or less per axle with a valid A-Pass or $20 without. Wide or oversized loads: $135 U.S. dollars.
Detroit Windsor Tunnel
One way from Detroit to Windsor for cars, pickups, RVs, taxis, vans, limousines or vehicles with trailers is $9 in U.S. dollars. Busses are $14. Commercial vehicles are between $10 and $55 U.S. dollars depending on the number of axles it has.
One way from Windsor to Detroit for cars, pickups, RVs, taxis, vans, limousines or vehicles with trailers is $10.10 in Canadian dollars. Buses are $11.75. Commercial vehicles are between $11.75 and $62.35, depending on the number of axles it has.
Discounts are available with the tunnel's Nexpress pre-paid toll program, bringing the price of travel from Detroit to Windsor for cars, pickups, RVs, taxis, etc. to $6.75 U.S. dollars and $9.25 Canadian. Travel from Windsor to Detroit is $4.70 U.S. and $5.90 Canadian.
