The Gordie Howe International Bridge, decades in the making, is finally set to open to vehicle traffic on July 27.
The bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor is a major infrastructure project that will link
one of the busiest international land border crossings in North America.
Ahead of its opening, the Detroit Free Press looks at the project by the numbers:
2018: The year construction of the bridge began.
$4.7 billion: The amount it cost to build the bridge, in U.S. dollars.
1.5 miles: The length of the bridge.
150 feet: The distance between bridge deck and the water.
123 feet: The width of the bridge.
6,000: The number of lighting fixtures on the bridge.
Six: The number of lanes on the bridge. Three are U.S.-bound and three are Canada-bound.
16: The number of toll lanes.
60: The number of inspection lanes.
$5.75: The standard toll rate for a small- to medium-size personal vehicle.
