After more than a decade in business, Atwater in the Park, a Grosse Pointe Park brewery, announced that the taproom and biergarten will close.
At 1175 Lakepointe Street, Atwater is in the former Grace United Church, which was converted and renovated. Atwater is set to close on Friday, Oct. 23, with a farewell party, posts on Facebook and Instagram said.

“Before we close our doors, we’re inviting you to join us for a farewell party to celebrate the memories we’ve made together and the community that made this place special,” reads the post.
The biergarten and taproom is known for beers including Dirty Blond Ale and Vanilla Java Porter. Per its social media posts, the pub is asking people to stop in, share a memory and “show the team some love and help
give this chapter a proper send-off.”
The brewery's Facebook message provided no other information as to why they are closing. The brewery and restaurant opened in 2014, providing communal tables and dining room space. Atwater in the Park also has an outdoor patio.
On its menu is an array of beer-friendly items like giant pretzels served with beer cheese, chicken wings, poutine and loaded fries. There's a selection of burgers, sandwiches and pizza, according to the online menu.
Tenth and Black Beer Company, a division of Molson-Coors, bought the Atwater brand in 2020 from Mark Reith, though Reith retained the Detroit location real estate.
In 2023 Molson-Coors sold the brand with locations in Detroit, Grand Rapids and Grosse Pointe Park to Tilray. More recently, Reith re-acquired the Atwater Detroit location.
Atwater Brewery in Grand Rapids, which was open for 10 years, permanently closed at the end of July. Tilray Brands website lists no Atwater brands.
