The Detroit Lions could be down a second starter on their offensive line for next week's showdown with the Buffalo Bills.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said the Lions got some initial good news on Christian Mahogany after the left guard left Sunday's 31-30 overtime win against the New Orleans Saints with a left leg injury, but that Mahogany isn't "out of the woods" yet.

Mahogany was injured on the Lions' second offensive series, when he fell to the ground in the open field and clutched at his knee as he kicked out to block on a toss play to Jahmyr Gibbs.

He walked off the field under his own power, but was taken off the field on a medical and ruled out for the game at halftime with a knee injury.

"I don't really know," Campbell said when asked for an

update on Mahogany after the game. "I hate to say one way or another. We did do a scan that really ended up being negative, so that’s good news but that doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods. Sounds like it could be more hip-ish, maybe. But we’ll see."

Ben Bartch finished the game at left guard and would be next in line to start if Mahogany misses time.

A part-time starter with the San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars the past six seasons, Bartch split first-team reps with Mahogany in practice last week after missing part of training camp while recovering from Lisfranc surgery.

The Lions already are without starting center Cade Mays, who will miss at least the first month of the season with a broken wrist. Mays is eligible to return from injured reserve for the Lions' Oct. 11 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Juice Scruggs started in Mays' place against the Saints.
