The Jalen Duren contract details have been revealed.
The Detroit Pistons and Duren agreed on a five-year, $200 million deal late Thursday, Oct. 1, with $40 million in average annual value making him the No. 8 center in the NBA in AAV.
The contract declines in money for the 2027-28 season and then rises every season afterwards, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype on Friday night.
Spotrac, an oft-cited contracts website, also has the same structure for Duren's new deal. This gives the Pistons a touch more flexibility next summer, when Ausar Thompson's new contract kicks in. Thompson's deal is structured differently with the more standard approach of 8% raises each year.

- 2027-28: $36.95 million, 20.99% of projected league cap
- 2028-29: $38.96 million, 21.08% of projected league cap

The Pistons are not projected to have cap space in the near future, with Cade Cunningham now in Year 2 of his supermax at 30-31% of the cap (five years, $269 million through 2030) and Thompson's cap hit accounting for roughly 16% each year.
Teams are not penalized for going over the cap, and each team has mechanisms to do so, but the luxury tax and first apron and harsh second apron bring constraints in the types of transactions that can be made.
