The Ocala City Council has unanimously approved the sale of beer, wine and liquor at two business entities.
One proprietor is BJ's Wholesale Club, 7030 SW 59th Ave. The store is scheduled to open its doors in the fall.
Mormax Beverages Corp. was the name of the applicant listed on the alcohol permit, which is for off-premises consumption, according to a five-page city document.
The second application came from a hotel, La Quinta Inn & Suites at 3530 SW 36th Ave. Representing the business, which sought on-premises consumption, was Shree Om 3530 LL.
For that case, according to a city document, the hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. There are 60 stools/seats in the establishment.
City staff recommended approval of both requests. The public had
an opportunity to speak about both issues, but no one expressed any questions or concerns. Similarly, council members had nothing to say about the issues.
Ire Bethea Sr., council president, Pro Tem Jay A. Musleh, and council members Kristen Dreyer, Jim Hilty and Barry Mansfield all voted yes on the two requests.
Other city council news
The city formally honored and recognized the late Rev. Lorenzo Stanley Edwards Sr. The presentation was made to Richard Edwards, the man's son and a retired Ocala Police Department captain.
A pastor at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church for 50 years,the elder Edwards died Aug. 17.He was 88.
The resolution was ready aloud by Bethea. The younger Edwards thanked the city council and the police department for their kindness. He said his father's "legacy will go on."
