When asked the moment of Cami Satterfield’s senior season they will remember most, she and Belleview flag football coach Michael Pixley, without hesitation, offer the same answer.
Hosting Buchholz in the District 5-3A title game on April 23, Rattlers’ quarterback Jazzy Rivas threw a deep pass in the final minute that Satterfield raced towards before leaping fully outstretched and pulling it in to help seal a 16-7 victory.
“She got laid out, and I think the player who hit her probably broke her (own) leg,” Pixley said. “Cami landed hard and held up the ball.”
Added Satterfield: “I wasn’t sure I was going to catch it. I dove for it. When I got up, I knew we were going to win the district championship.”

has that memorable moment as an exclamation point, but the sentence leading up to it was quite full.
As a wide receiver, Satterfield led the county with 69 receptions for 850 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns. As a defensive back, her 14 interceptions finished third in the county.
Satterfield’s significant contributions came despite missing three games, two with a broken pinkie and one because of illness, as BHS finished 14-4 and unbeaten against foes from Marion County.
Perhaps the most impressive part of Satterfield’s season is she accomplished all of that in just her second year playing the sport.
“She’s rare,” Pixley said. “The only thing she lacks is speed - we pick on her (playfully) about that. But she’s super-intelligent. We call her our AI football player.
“She learned better angles (than opponents), has great situational awareness and an uncanny ability to find the football. Offensively, she gets the ball at its highest point, and defensively, she just seems to know where the quarterback is going to throw it.”
Now enrolled at Florida State, Satterfield said she hopes to play club flag football. Also a first-team all-county basketball player, she said her days of playing that sport competitively likely are done, as her primary focus will be on her major of exercise physiology. She said she wants to become a physical therapist.
“I’d like to stay in sports, helping young athletes through injury,” Satterfield said.
And perhaps seeing more championship-clinching catches.
