One of three young adults filming a social media video while standing on a College Road (State Road 200) median was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured on Sept. 27, according to the Ocala Police Department.
The three young men were filming a social media video that featured one person receiving a haircut. They were filming in the 2500 block of Southwest College Road, also known as SR 200. This is near the Ocala West shopping plaza.
According to Ocala Police, a chair from a nearby fast food restaurant was taken by the trio and put in the median for use as a prop in the video. Officers said one person, an 18-year-old man from Summerfield, was sitting in the chair. A second man was cutting the man's hair, and the third was filming.
Officers
said two vehicles, a Chevy Silverado 3500 Dually and a Lexus SUV, were involved in the crash. The Chevy was westbound on SR 200 and the Lexus was entering the intersection from Ocala West when the crash happened.
Police said the Chevy hit the 18-year-old, who was in the median. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition as of Sept. 28.
The other people at the median, ages 20 and 19, were not hit or injured, police said. The two are from Summerfield and Ocala. No names had been released as of Sept. 28.
Police said the crash happened about 8:10 p.m.
From their ongoing investigation, officers said the hair cutting videos are a trend on social media.
