One of two men arrested in connection with the drive-by shooting of a5-year-old girl and her motheron Sept. 14 had his first court appearance on Sept. 18.
Here's what we know:
Who was the judge? County Judge Tommy Thompson.
What are the charges? Three counts of attempted murder and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle.
What's the defendant's name? Kentrai Re'Shone Patterson, 28.
What happened in court? Patterson was at the Marion County Jail. The judge was at the courthouse. The hearing was held by Zoom.
Patterson requested and received a public defender to represent him. The prosecutor told the judge that Patterson has a prior criminal history of drugs and weapons offenses. The judge ordered him held without bail at this time due to the seriousness
of the crime. At a future hearing the state will try to make that no-bail status permanent.
Patterson's arraignment is set for Oct. 20 at 9 a.m.
About the case: Ocala Police arrested Patterson and his cousin Kedonte Tyron Davis, 26, on Sept. 16. Davis made his first court appearance on Sept. 17.
Police say the girl was shot in the torso and her mother was hit in the hand. Police said they recovered 22 shell casings from the shooting scene: Southeast 11th Avenue near Southeast 12th Street.
According to police, Davis admitted driving the vehicle and said Patterson was with him. He said Patterson fired the shots.
Davis is being held on three counts of principal to attempted murder and one count of principal to shooting into an occupied vehicle. Detectives said a third person was in the vehicle, and they're trying to find that individual.
