A mother and her 5-year-old child were shot in a drive-by shooting on Sept. 14 in southeast Ocala.
Ocala Police Department officers said the shooting occurred about 9:45 p.m. close to the 1200 block of Southeast 11th Avenue.
Officers said the family, including the father, were traveling in a vehicle when someone from a second vehicle that was behind them opened fire.
The family's vehicle was struck multiple times, police said. The child and her mother were taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities said both are stable.
Police do not believe the shooting is connected tothe Sept. 13 shooting death of 23-year-old Tedarrium Deas. Two other men, ages 18 and 31, also were injured in that case. That investigation is ongoing.
