The Missouri Department of Transportation will mark the start of construction on the Southwest I-44 Improvements Project with a groundbreaking ceremony in Springfield on Aug. 24, a major investment in the Forward 44 Program along the interstate corridor.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. near the I-44 and Mulroy Road/MO 744 interchange (Exit 84), according to a community announcement. The project spans portions of the corridor from Newton County to Laclede County and includes improvements at multiple locations along I-44 through a Design-Build delivery method.
State transportation officials said the overall project carries a $471 million price tag. That total includes $328 million in General Revenue funding approved by the General Assembly and
the governor.
Attendees will gather at a location overlooking I-44 near the Mulroy Road/MO 744 interchange.
Drivers attending the ceremony can reach the site using East Parallel Lane. A Missouri Department of Transportation vehicle with flashing lights will be positioned at the entrance and staff members will help direct attendees.
