The first fall high school sports state championship concluded on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Missouri girls golfers wrapped their season across four different locations.
Many Springfield-area players qualified for the state championship this season, with multiple players earning medals. The top-15 players in each classification medaled. Here’s everything that happened to area players at the state tournament
School of the Ozarks’ Laylah Bates claims Class 1 title
Laylah Bates, a junior, won the Class 1 State Championship in Smithville. Bates won with a two-day total of 151, 7-over par.
Bates won by three shots over Whitfield’s Tina Zhang. Ash Grove’s Rylee Allred came up just short of winning four consecutive state titles. She would’ve been the first player in Missouri history to complete this feat. Allred ended
her tournament at 11-over par.
In round one, Bates tied a tournament-best score of 72, even par. She followed it with a 7-over score in round two.
Greenwood makes history in Class 1
Greenwood finished second in Class 1 with a total score of 834. The Blue Jays were 41 shots off of Highland, the Class 1 state champions. This is the highest team finish in Greenwood history.
Greenwood was the only Springfield-area team to win a team trophy this season. Ruby Brothers led the way with a 28th-place finish, shooting 57-over par across both days. Dylan Lee (32nd), Gwyndolyn Gelner (33rd), Emma Daugherty (53rd), and Anna Schultz (71st) rounded out Greenwood’s second-place team.

Freshman phenom Adalyn Wilson put together a strong state championship performance in Class 3. Wilson took second place with a score of 152, 8-over par. She was four shots off of first place held by MICDS’ Lisa Zhang.
