Of course, happiness is deeply personal and influenced by a variety of factors, both in and out of our control. Things like maintaining a positive mindset or spending time on activities we enjoy can help boost our mood, while challenges such as the rising cost of living and ongoing economic uncertainty can take a toll.

Personal finance company WalletHub recently released its annual study ranking the happiest states in the nation. The report evaluated all 50 states across metrics related to emotional and physical well-being, work environment, financial security and community life.

Here's what to know about Missouri's ranking.

Missouri ranked No. 31 in WalletHub's list, placing it near the middle

of the pack.

For its analysis, WalletHub evaluated states across 30 metrics, including the share of adults who feel active and productive, job security and personal safety, to determine each state's overall happiness score. They were then grouped into three categories: Emotional & Physical Well-Being, Work Environment and Community & Environment.

Unsurprisingly, Missouri's scores were also largely in the middle overall, though the state did receive an above-average ranking in the work environment category.
