A collision involving a wrong-way driver on U.S. 65 near Hollister on Saturday, Aug. 22, included a local Missouri state trooper and his family. With the crash claiming two lives, the community is now raising money to support the law enforcement officer.
According to information shared by the Missouri State Troopers' Association on social media, Trooper Colten Henderson was involved in a head-on crash on U.S. 65 alongside his wife, Haley Henderson, and two children. MSHP confirmed that Henderson serves on Troop D, the troop that covers southwest Missouri.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report states that a 69-year-old woman was driving north in the southbound passing lane when her vehicle collided with the vehicle driven by Henderson
at 3:55 p.m. Saturday. While the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Henderson and his family were taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
According to the crash report, Haley Henderson died at the hospital Monday, Aug. 24. The children, 10 and 11 years old, suffered minor injuries. According to the troopers' association, Colten Henderson and the children have been released from the hospital.
A GoFundMe has been set up to support the Henderson family through this loss and continue their recovery. As of 2:30 p.m. Monday, it had already raised more than $36,000. Those interested in donating may also mail checks to the troopers' association by mailing a check made out to "MOSTA" with "Henderson Family" in the memo to 1729 E. Elm St., Jefferson City, MO 65101.
