Springfield’s First Friday Art Walk will bring art exhibits, live music, artist receptions and community activities to galleries, businesses and cultural venues across downtown on Aug. 7, with many locations extending hours into the evening. According to a community announcement, participating venues will remain open during varying hours for the monthly event, with some exhibits continuing through September.
The event features gallery exhibitions, artist showcases, performances and interactive activities at locations throughout downtown Springfield. Venues will be open during the Art Walk or throughout the month during their regular schedules.
Among the featured exhibitions is "Crossroads" at Brick City Gallery, showcasing work by Molly Murphy
Adams, Mona Cliff, Natani Notah and Neebinnaukzhik “Neebin” Southall. The exhibition runs through Sept. 18 and explores culture, identity and the histories of Native women living and working in the Midwest.
The Carolla Arts Exhibition Center will present "Linear Irregularities," featuring work by Anna Tsouhlarakis. The exhibition spans multiple projects from the artist’s career and examines conceptual expectations within Native American art.
First & Calvary Presbyterian Church will display selected artwork created through its Faith & the Arts Academy summer program for children, while The Creamery Arts Center will host "With Every Fiber," a fiber arts exhibition featuring local and regional artists. Queen City Choral is scheduled to perform a pop-up concert at 6 p.m. during the Art Walk.

Hotel Vandivort plans to feature artwork by Lynnsey Fletcher in its lobby from 4:30 to 10 p.m. Obelisk Home will open "Wink in a Room," an exhibition by Dustin Burgert, during a reception from 6 to 10 p.m. Ozarks Farm Stop will feature Amber Serrano of Graceful Linx, while Formed: An Artist Collective will showcase artwork by Laura Ingalsbe.
J.L. Long Traders will present Lone Wear x Katie Hopkins, a clothing-based art collection featuring one-of-a-kind hand-painted garments. Transformation Gallery & Tattoo will showcase artwork created by members of its staff.
Music, activities and community events
The Gillioz Theatre will open The Gallery on its second floor for exhibits, refreshments and a live jazz performance by members of MOJO beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Springfield Art Museum also plans to offer a hands-on art activity during the evening.
At the Park Central Branch Library, Urban Sketchers of Springfield will present a multi-state exhibit of Route 66 sketches representing cities including Chicago, St. Louis, Springfield, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Los Angeles. The library also plans to host a journal-binding class where participants can learn to create journals from scratch.
Gailey’s Breakfast Cafe will feature artwork from the SWMO Visual Arts Collective’s "Foot X Foot Youth Art Show," highlighting work created by young artists.
Additional participating venues include Heer’s Luxury Living and other downtown locations that will welcome visitors throughout the evening.
