Springfield-area dogs and the people behind their photos and videos will compete for top honors at The Moxie Cinema's inaugural Dog-Cademy Awards, a fundraiser that will celebrate canine-themed filmmaking and photography while supporting the nonprofit theater.
The nominees were announced ahead of the Oct. 3 event at Mother's Brewing Company, according to a community announcement. The awards recognize dog photos and videos submitted by community members in categories ranging from comedy and documentary filmmaking to heartwarming moments and action-packed clips.
The ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 3 at Mother's Brewing Company. General admission begins at 3 p.m., while VIP and filmmaker admission begins at 2 p.m.
The event will include a red carpet,
games, interviews and special guests, including therapy dogs. Proceeds will support The Moxie Cinema's ongoing programming and community initiatives, according to the announcement.

"We wanted to create an event that was fun, unexpected and very much The Moxie," said Joe Dull, executive director of The Moxie Cinema. "The response from the community has been fantastic, and we’re excited to celebrate these talented filmmakers, and their adorable dogs, while raising money to support the future of The Moxie."
