Coffee shop opens in former school
Kingdom Coffee has opened a new Springfield location in the Midtown neighborhood at 1425 N. Washington St., inside the former Boyd Elementary School. The location opens daily at 7 a.m.
The shop's coffee drinks are made with freshly roasted beans, and its menu includes burritos and pastries. It began offering ramen starting in January 2026.
Jason Strother and Isaac Neal opened Kingdom Coffee & Cycles at 211 S. Market Ave. in downtown Springfield in 2014, according to News-Leader reporting. It had previously operated as "The Hub Coffee & Bicycles" at 811 N. Boonville Ave. from 2009 to 2014. Kingdom Coffee opened its

Barbecue restaurant temporarily closes due to fire
Buckingham Smokehouse Bar-B-Q, 2002 S. Campbell Ave., is closed temporarily. Owner David Campbell told Ozarks First that a fire started the morning of Sept. 6 in the smoke pit on the west side of the building, but did not enter the restaurant.
The restaurant hopes to open in less than a week, Campbell told the Springfield Business Journal on Sept. 8.
The restaurant is known for its smoked meats, including a typical barbecue menu of brisket, ribs, pulled pork and burnt ends, as well as custom orders like holiday turkeys and hams, whole pigs or fish.
Campbell opened the restaurant across from Bass Pro Shops in 1995. The name stems from then co-owner Mark Brown's friendship with Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac, according to News-Leader reporting, whose grandfather's produce label was "Buckingham Produce."
Coffee stand drops location in Monett
A new 7 Brew coffee stand was dropped in Monett Sept. 4, though it isn't anticipated to open until this fall.
The brand, which is known for its numerous drink combinations and high-energy drive-thru experience, currently has eight locations in Springfield and numerous others throughout the Ozarks.
The stand at 841 E. Highway 60 will be its first location in Monett and is anticipated to add 80 jobs to the area.
