Ozarks Public Television will launch a new event focused on antiques, collectibles and family heirlooms when Roots & Relics comes to the DoubleTree Hotel Convention Center, 2431 N. Glenstone Ave. in Springfield, on Oct. 3.
The event is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m., according to a community announcement. Presented by Easter Law Firm, Roots & Relics is designed to bring together appraisers, collectors, historians and community members interested in the stories behind treasured objects.
Guests will be able to explore antiques and collectibles, learn preservation techniques for family keepsakes, attend educational workshops and watch appraisal sessions featuring items passed down through generations.

Workshops and historical programs
In addition to appraisal opportunities, attendees can participate in educational sessions focused on history and traditional crafts.
Workshop topics will include papermaking and bookbinding, examining how those practices helped preserve stories and knowledge through generations. Other sessions will look at traditional printmaking techniques and their cultural influence.
Another presentation will focus on Ozarks artisans and how practical handicrafts became popular souvenirs during the height of Route 66 travel, according to the announcement.
Organizers said that the event is intended for both experienced collectors and community members interested in learning more about family heirlooms and local history. Attendees will also have opportunities to meet historians, appraisers and other enthusiasts.
“In many ways, Roots & Relics reflects the mission of public media,” Knight said in the announcement. “We believe stories matter, and often those stories begin with an object that sparks a memory or a conversation. General admission tickets cost $60. Admission that includes appraisals costs $100.
