The Rachel Donelson Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will mark Constitution Week with a public exhibit and community observances in Springfield from Sept. 17-23, according to a community announcement.
The observance coincides with the 239th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution on Sept. 17.
The chapter plans to host a Constitution Week exhibit at The Library Center, 4653 S. Campbell Ave., from Sept. 17-23. The display will be open for public viewing.
Mayor Jeff Schrag is scheduled to present a proclamation to chapter members in his office at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 14.
To commemorate Constitution Week, the chapter is also encouraging participation in the annual "Ringing of Bells Across America"
event at 3 p.m. Central Time on Sept. 17.
According to the announcement, DAR encourages citizens, churches, schools, veterans, veterans groups, senior and retirement centers, scouts, youth organizations and local government employees and leaders to ring bells simultaneously as part of the nationwide observance.

"In 1955, the Daughters petitioned Congress to set aside Sept. 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week," Chapter Regent Lisa George said in the announcement. "The resolution was later adopted by the U.S. Congress and signed into Public Law No. 915 on Aug. 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower ... The commitment of the DAR is to encourage study of the Constitution and educate the public about it. The Constitution was adopted by the Congress of the Confederation on Sept. 17, 1787. This supports the DAR's mission areas of historic preservation, education and patriotism."
