SPRINGFIELD — Experience is everything for Ramone Green Jr.
As the years stack, Green has only become more and more comfortable in his role. The Missouri State running back is primed for a big season.
During fall camp, it’s about fine tuning the details so that the Nixa native is ready to shine come Week 1.
“As a player, you always strive for improvement,” Green said. “I always want to get better in my game. Whatever happens, happens. If I’m a starter or not, I know that I’ve put in the effort and the work.”
Green had his breakout season last year. He rushed for a career-high
278 yards and scored his only touchdown of his career against Louisiana Tech. Green is great in the passing game, too. He caught 29 passes for 446 yards and three touchdowns.
During camp, Green is competing for the starting role with Boise State transfers Breezy Dubar.
Iron sharpens iron, and that is no different in Missouri State’s running back room.
Green shared that he has improved his hands in the blocking game, route running skills and his speed. But he’s most proud of the work that he’s done in the leadership department.
“I’ve been trying to lead and be someone that people can look to when times get hard,” Green said. “That is something that I have definitely took on myself, being an older guy and being the guy that has been a Bear for four years.”
First-year Missouri State head coach Casey Woods shared that Green’s leadership in the first week of practice has been key for the team.
Green lives and breathes the Springfield area. When he makes a big play, it’s almost like all of Springfield was involved in making his dreams become reality.
“I want to show people around the state and the country to not overlook us,” Green said. “There are ballers in the 417. You can doubt us, but we will come to play.”
Missouri State’s athletic department announced that the total amount of season ticket holders has surpassed last year’s total. With more people packing Plaster Stadium, a local Springfieldian is hoping to produce at a high level.
“I take pride being in this uniform,” Green said. “I take pride in this team. I want to get everybody on this same train and in the same direction.”
