U.S. News and World Report released its ranking of the best regional hospitals in the country, and several from Missouri made the list.
U.S. News evaluated 134 hospitals across the state, recognizing facilities that demonstrated strong performances across specialties, procedures, patient outcomes and experience.
"Across service lines and in quality measure after quality measure, the hospitals in this group collectively define excellence," the publication said.
Here are Missouri's best regional hospitals for 2026-2027, according to U.S. News and World Report.
Barnes-Jewish Hospital ranked top in Missouri
St. Louis's Barnes-Jewish Hospital once again claimed the spot as the best hospital in the state.
The hospital received national recognition in 10 specialties and was rated high performing in 18
adult procedures and conditions, including aortic valve surgery, colon cancer surgery and diabetes.
Not only that, but four other hospitals in the BJC Health System also made the list — Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City, Saint Luke's East Hospital and Christian Hospital.

- Mercy Hospital Jefferson, Festus: Tied for No. 11 in Missouri and ranked No. 8 in St. Louis
- NKC Health Hospital, North Kansas City: Tied for No. 11 in Missouri and ranked No. 5 in Kansas City
The University of Kansas Hospital was ranked the No. 1 hospital in the Kansas City area.
How did U.S. News determine the best hospitals in Missouri?
A hospital qualifies for the "best regional hospital" list if it offers a full range of general medical and surgical services, achieves at least eight high-performing ratings in the Best Hospitals procedures and conditions, and has five more high-performing ratings than evaluated ratings across those procedures and conditions.
In each region, hospitals ranked on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll scored higher than those not on the list, regardless of their point totals. If multiple Honor Roll hospitals were in the same region, they were tied for the top position.
Hospitals in each region were ranked based on their points. They earned two points for each of the 11 data-driven Best Hospitals specialties where they achieved a national ranking. Additionally, hospitals gained one point for each of the 21 procedures and conditions in which they were rated "High Performing." Hospitals lost a point for each procedure or condition where they received a rating of "Evaluated."
