Animal lovers can help support shelter pets by participating in the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri's second annual Wag N' Walk fundraiser starting at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 8 at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park, 3825 W. Farm Road 146 in Springfield.
The event invites community members to walk with their dogs, or without a dog, while raising money for animals awaiting care and adoption, according to a community announcement. Participants may choose a route of up to 3 miles and complete the walk at their own pace.
Organizers said in the announcement that the fundraiser supports shelter, medical and daily care services for dogs and cats in need while helping homeless animals find permanent homes.
Participants will receive a Wag Bag that includes treats for
people and pets, a commemorative bracelet, a sticker, sponsor giveaways and a raffle entry.
Registration costs are $20 for individual walkers ages 13 and older, $10 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and younger. Dogs may participate at no cost.

Activities planned after the walk

Health requirements for participating dogs
The Humane Society said in the announcement that all dogs attending must be current on vaccinations.
Owners will be required to sign a waiver confirming their pets are healthy, free of contagious diseases and up to date on vaccinations, including rabies and DHPP. Dogs showing signs of illness should not attend, according to the announcement.
