The Foundation for Springfield Public Schools awarded $319,067 in fall grants to Springfield Public Schools, funding classroom projects, schoolwide needs and districtwide initiatives across the district.
More than 70 Foundation for Springfield Public Schools volunteer donors visited 36 schools on Sept. 10 to present grant awards to educators, according to a community announcement.
The funding includes three grant programs designed to support students, educators and district leaders. Back to School Grants provided $165,719 through 68 grants for classroom needs ranging from hands-on learning experiences and technology to literacy resources, STEM programs and other projects.
Impact Grants for Principals awarded $42,698 through 13 grants to principals
and senior district leaders for schoolwide needs. District Wide Grants provided $110,650 through seven grants supporting broader initiatives, including 417 Reads and Outdoor Pursuits.
Educators receiving Back to School Grants learned of their awards during surprise classroom visits by Foundation volunteers and donors. Principals and district leaders receiving Impact Grants and District Wide Grants were notified before the presentations.
Grant funding supports schools across the district
The foundation said that the combined awards total 88 fall grants and $319,067 in funding for Springfield Public Schools.
“Every year, our educators remind us just how creative and committed they are to finding new ways to engage their students,” Natalie Murdock, executive director of the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools, said in the announcement. “Grant Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate that commitment and show teachers that our community believes in the work they are doing. These grants provide educators and district leaders with the resources to bring their ideas to life, address important needs and create meaningful experiences for students. We are so thankful to everyone who continues to invest in our schools and make these opportunities possible.”
The foundation said in the announcement that the grants are funded through support from local businesses, community partners and individual donors who contribute to the organization’s effort to expand educational opportunities for Springfield Public Schools students.
