INDIANAPOLIS—Gaige Lewis' record-tying sixth career tournament under-par effort (-5) led Drury men's golf to a sixth-place finish Monday, Sept. 21 at the UIndy Fall Invitational.
Four of Drury's five players finished under par, marking the first time under head coach Bryan Daniels that four or more Panthers shot under par in the same event. Additionally, the Panthers' team total of 851 was the lowest 54-hole score in the Daniels era and their second-round 281 was the third-lowest team round in program history.
Lewis' five-under effort (71-71-69-211) tied the program record with his sixth career tournament under-par finish. The Springfield native averaged 3.93 strokes per par 4 and led all players with two eagles, both coming in the third round.
The 54-hole tournament was played at Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis on a course measuring 6,904 yards. The event featured 17 teams from 16 schools, including five from the GLVC. McKendree won the team title at 27 under. Davenport (-25) and Hillsdale (-17) rounded out the top three. Drury (-13) placed sixth, just behind Ferris State (-14) and ahead of Maryville (-12).
Davenport's Cayden Kwan (-13) won the individual title, edging McKendree's Simon Meiby (-12) and Maryville's William Cartier-Watchorn (-11). Lewis (-5) led Drury with a tie for 11th. Meyer Lively (-3) was the Panthers' second-highest finisher, tying for 16th. Lively (-3) and Quinn Thomas (-1) posted their first career tournaments under par, and both Thomas (2.75) and Ellton Bostrom (2.92) ranked among the top 10 finishers for par-3 scoring average.
