SPRINGFIELD — Hall of famer Steve Hesser is back in the coaching saddle. The former Drury men’s basketball coach will be back on the sidelines, but at a different level.
Instead of college men, Hesser will be coaching 7th-grade boys basketball for Springfield Catholic.
“We are incredibly excited for our 7th grade student-athletes to have the opportunity to learn from Coach Hesser and for him to become part of our Springfield Catholic basketball program,” the school wrote in a social media post.

Hesser coached Drury from 2004-21 and became the school’s all-time leader in wins with a record of 354-145. He helped the Panthers
win the 2013 NCAA Division II national championship. Hesser brought Drury to the national tournament 10 times, along with two Elite Eight appearances.
Hesser also coached at Glendale High School before joining the Panthers. He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. Earlier this week, Hesser was also named to the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame.
