History Museum on the Square will offer Haunted History Walking Tours and a Haunted History Bus Tour in late October, giving participants a chance to explore allegedly haunted locations, true crime stories and local mysteries tied to downtown Springfield, according to a community announcement.
The museum is bringing back the tours with support from BPJ Insurance, Fisk Transportation, The Calaboose, operated as the Springfield Police Museum, and Tabak Co. Guests on the walking tours will visit the Historic Fox Theatre, the Calaboose and Tabak Co., which once served as Springfield's undertaker, while hearing stories about unexplained occurrences, notable crimes and events from the city's past.
“We’re excited to once again give people the opportunity
to step inside some of downtown Springfield’s most intriguing (and allegedly most haunted) locations,” Sean FitzGibbons, executive director of History Museum on the Square, said in the announcement. “These tours are a fun way to experience local history. There are some spooky stories and a few chilling details along the way, but at their heart, these tours are about discovering Springfield’s history and having a ghastly great time doing it.”
The walking tours follow an easy, low-impact route and last about one hour. Organizers said in the announcement that the bus tour extends beyond the downtown walking route and includes additional locations and stories.

Haunted History Walking Tours are scheduled for Oct. 23-24 and Oct. 30-31. Member and patron tickets cost $20, while nonmember tickets cost $25.
