Hilton scored 59 points, while Pittsford piled up 44.
Rush-Henrietta finished with just 14 points. But like the Hilton Cadets and Pittsford Panthers, that was enough for the Royal Comets to win and remain in one of two Democrat and Chronicle Super 10 high school football team rankings this week.
This is the second edition of the Super 10 rankings, two polls released ahead of Week 2.
Brighton, a state finalist last season, is No. 1 among large schools before its home game Thursday, Sept. 10 against No. 6 Irondequoit.
The Monroe Red Jackets, who last season became the first team in the Rochester City School District to win a state championship, scored more points than any other team in Section V last week when they produced 66 at Edison. They are
No. 1 in the Super 10 small schools rankings.
The large schools rankings include teams in Class AA and Class A, while the small schools rankings include teams in Class B, Class C and Class D.
Democrat and Chronicle writers Justin Ritzel, Jeff Uveino and James Johnson determine the rankings. Each reporter lists who they believe are the best 10 teams from large and small schools in Section V.
The No. 1 teams on each list receive 10 points, the No. 2 teams receive nine points, the No. 3 teams receive eight points and so on.
Victor and York/Pavilion pop in to the Super 10, while McQuaid, and Batavia are among the teams which dropped out. What about Penfield and East Rochester/Gananda? Take a look below.
Section V football Super 10, large school
1. Brighton(1-0) - Class A - 30 points (3 first place votes) - Last week: 1.
Rollout: Bruins coach Stephen Lian can and will say again that quarterback Ethan Bialaszewski is progressing. A junior, Bialaszewski had three touchdowns while completing 7 of 8 pass attempts for 109 yards. The scoring throws were to different Bruins.
2. University Prep (1-0) - Class AA - 26 points - Last week: 3T.
Rollout: Moves up after passing and running over one of Buffalo's weaker teams among the private schools. The Griffiths had a 200-yard rusher, 100-yard receiver and quarterback Eric Torres threw two touchdown passes versus zero interceptions.
3. Hilton(1-0) - Class A - 23 points - Last week: 3T.
Rollout: Stacked up points while making a win over Fairport look easy. Maybe a game at Penfield, a second consecutive matchup against a Class AA team, will be a stronger test.
4. Pittsford(1-0) - Class AA - 22 points - Last week: 2.
Rollout: Have the Panthers transformed into a passing team? Senior quarterback Brody Pusateri and Jesse Jablonsky showed against Brockport that they too, are a good combination. Jablonsky caught nine passes, three for touchdowns, for 118 yards.
5. Rush-Henrietta (1-0) - Class AA - 16 points - Last week: 5.
Rollout: Next week, R-H is in a different spot after a Super 10 matchup on home field against No. 4 Pittsford. A one-point win over Webster Schroeder might not be the most impressive victory at this point, but the Royal Comets got the job done.
6. (tied) Webster Schroeder (0-1) - Class A - 11 points - Last week: 9.
Rollout: The Warriors lost to Rush-Henrietta, but earned a little bit of credit with the three voters. They also get another Class AA team this week at Fairport.
6. (tied) Canandaigua(1-0) - Class A - 11 points - Last week: 7T.
Rollout: Another businesslike performance could be ahead during a home game against Class B Batavia. Do the Gray Wolves top last week's 42-point total?
6. (tied) Irondequoit(1-0) - Class A - 11 points - Last week: 7T.
Rollout: A good running start was what the young Eagles needed. Now comes a steeper test at Brighton, the team that put Irondequoit out of the 2025 sectionals before winning the Section V Class A1 title and reaching a state final.
6. (tied) Victor (1-0) - Class A - 11 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Rollout: The Blue Devils knew what to do with opportunities against Penfield. Next up, a game at Spencerport, a team in Class A. Victor quarterback Eli Ricci impressed voter Justin Uveino.
10. Penfield (0-1) - Class AA - 2 points - Last week: 6.
Rollout: Tough start for the defending Section V Class AA champion, and the No. 4 Hilton Cadets are coming to town after scoring 59 points in Week 1.
Also received votes: Churchville-Chili (1-0, Class A1), Eastridge (1-0, Class A2).
Section V football Super 10, small school
1. Monroe(1-0) - Class B - 30 points (3 first place votes) - Last week: 1.
Rollout: A laugher in the opener for the Class B state champions. Next up is the first night game on the home field in program history, according to principal Jason Muhammad. McQuaid is the opponent.
2. East High/World of Inquiry (0-0) - Class B - 27 points - Last week: 2.
Rollout: When is the last time East High played Aquinas? The now merged teams face off against each other Sept. 11 at East. The Eagles lost their scheduled opponent last week when Wilson/Early College joined the Edison merger during the preseason.
3. Alexander/Pembroke (1-0) - Class C - 24 points - Last week: 3.
Rollout: Running game of the Defenders hit the ground rolling, produced 253 yards on 45 carries against Penn Yan/Dundee. Their defense came up with three turnovers, including interceptions by Gage Baker and Pierce Dinkins.
4. Avon(1-0) - Class D - 21 points - Last week: 4.
Rollout: Defending Section V Class D champion Riverhawks should have no worries this week. A loss to Holley/Lyndonville would be a big upset.
5. Letchworth/Perry/Warsaw (1-0) - Class C - 15 points - Last week: 7T.
Rollout: Next, is a big one for LPW. This is a chance to take down No. 3 Alexander/Pembroke, the reigning Section V Class C champion.
6. (tied) Honeoye Falls-Lima (0-1) - Class B - 14 points - Last week:: 5.
Rollout: The Cougars could yo-yo the most in this Super 10. Five of HF-L's opponents are teams in Class A. Play at Eastridge (Class A2) on Sept. 11.
6. (tied) LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford (1-0) - Class C - 14 points - Last week: 7T.
Rollout: Triumph at East Rochester was a borderline great way for the Rivals to open their season. Rivals see what they can do at Bath Haverling in a Livingston County/Genesee Region Division 1 matchup Sept. 11.
8. Batavia Notre Dame/Byron-Bergen (1-0) - Class D - 7 points - Last week: 9.
Rollout: Juicy Livingston County/Genesee Region Division 2 matchup for Batavia Notre Dame/Byron-Bergen against Canisteo-Greenwood (1-0).
9. (tied) East Rochester/Gananda (0-1) - Class C - 3 points - Last week: 6
Rollout: A four-point loss to LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford, another Super 10 team, is no reason for the ER/Gananda Bombers to drop out this week.
10. (tied) York/Pavilion (1-0) - Class B - 3 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Rollout: York/Pavilion won its season-opener against Red Jacket of the Wayne-Finger Lakes league by 20 points. That sets up an interesting Livingston County/Genesee Region Division 2 matchup against Attica, a 59-0 winner at Bishop Kearney on Sept. 5.
Also received votes: Canisteo-Greenwood (Class D, 1-0), Oakfield-Alabama/Elba (Class D, 1-0).
