Rochester's East District Councilmember Mary Lupien announced recently that she will not seek re-election when her term ends in 2027. In a recent video interview with the Democrat and Chronicle, Lupien reflected on her time on City Council, her decision not to seek re-election and her future plans.
During her time on council, Lupien led several initiatives such as the creation of Rochester's Person in Crisis Team and creating an alternative response with trained mental health professionals for people experiencing behavioral health crises.
She also served as an advocate for Housing First, public health, tenant protections, violence prevention and investments that address the root causes of poverty and inequality.
Lupien will continue representing
the East District through the end of 2027, focused on advancing the work she and the community have begun together.
"Service isn't tied to a title," Lupien said in a statement. "It's showing up where you're needed most."
