An 18-year-old Geneva woman was arrested Monday in connection with a September crash in Hopewell that seriously injured a another driver with serious, according to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office.
Woman arrested after crash
Yanieliz Michel Flecha Lopez, 18, of Geneva, was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, on Sept. 28 in connection with the Sept. 4 crash on State Routes 5 & 20 in Hopewell, Ontario County, deputies said.
Flecha Lopez is accused was driving a car west on Routes 5 & 20 and passing multiple vehicles at 98 mph in a 55-mph zone. Deputies said she was unable to safely return to the westbound lane and crossed into the eastbound lane.
Her vehicle struck two eastbound cars, deputies said.
Driver suffered serious injuries
The driver of the second eastbound vehicle - Lazena Ponder - suffered
serious internal injuries that required several surgeries, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Flecha Lopez was also issued traffic tickets for reckless driving, speeding and improper passing on the left.
Deputies said Flecha Lopez was taken to the Ontario County Jail for processing and later released on her own recognizance. She is due in Hopewell Town Court at a later date.
The crash remains under investigation.
