A proposed canal-side development in Fairport would bring a new upscale restaurant and six apartments to a historic property near the village's downtown.
The project, including a restaurant named Blackbird, will be at 10 Liftbridge Lane East, the former site of engineering firm BME Associates.
Blackbird's goal is to create a dining destination in Fairport that appeals to professional couples, family visitors and residents looking for a higher-end dining experience along the Erie Canal.
"It will be an upscale, chef-driven American restaurant with a strong focus on contemporary cuisine like shareable plates, high-quality entrees and desserts," said Roland Perrin, operator of the restaurant. "We are going to add a cozy, warm ambiance rooftop, which
will be a big attraction, and we will also have a deck."
The property is in the Box Factory complex near the waterfront. During a July 6 Fairport Planning Board meeting, Box Factory owner Chris Casa said the project would convert the building from office space into residential and restaurant use.
Casa said six apartments are planned for the building's second floor above the restaurant.
Fairport Village Manager Bryan White said the proposal and concept have been approved and that they are excited for the development. White also mentioned the village is currently waiting on construction documents for the full build out.
