A Steuben County man was critically injured Saturday evening after his motorcycle struck a deer in the town of Naples, according to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office.
The crash remains under investigation.
Crash happened on County Road 36
Deputies responded around 7:25 p.m. Saturday to the area of 7832 County Road 36 for a reported single-vehicle crash.
Investigators said Charles M. Burpee, 53, of Wayland, was riding a 2010 Honda motorcycle southbound on County Road 36 when he struck a deer.
Rider flown to Strong Memorial Hospital
Burpee was taken by Canandaigua Emergency Squad to F.F. Thompson Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
After he was stabilized, he was flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for additional treatment. He was listed in guarded to critical condition, according to the
sheriff's office.
Road closed during investigation
A portion of County Road 36 was temporarily closed while investigators reconstructed the crash scene.
The Naples Ambulance, Naples Fire Department, Richmond Fire Department and Mercy Flight assisted at the scene.
The Ontario County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the crash.
