True Food Kitchen has closed its only New York location after the restaurant chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the company announced in a press release.
The restaurant chain, which was founded in Phoenix, said it is using the Chapter 11 process to "strengthen its financial foundation, optimize its restaurant footprint and cost structure, and accelerate ongoing operational improvements."
As part of the bankruptcy filing, True Food Kitchen closed 12 restaurants, including its only New York location in Garden City, on Oct. 4. The company has 34 restaurants remaining across 14 states, none of them in New York.
True Food Kitchen said it is pursuing a court-supervised sale process to find a long-term partner to help "support the brand's future."
"True Food Kitchen is a pioneering brand with a distinctive position in wellness-driven dining, a loyal community of guests, and a mission that is more relevant than ever," True Food Kitchen CEO Jeff Chandler said. "This process is the best path forward to simplify the business and focus on what we do best: delivering craveable, health-forward food and genuine hospitality. We are confident this step will help us build a stronger True Food Kitchen for the future."
