Section V gets its first No. 1-versus-No. 2 Democrat and Chronicle Super 10 high school football matchup of the season.
East High/World of Inquiry hosts defending Class B state champion Monroe, the top-ranked team in the D&C's Super 10 Small Schools Poll, on Friday night. The Tree Bowl at East High kicks off at 6 p.m.
The Rochester City Athletic Conference game is one of four matchups between Super 10 teams in Section V this weekend, including Victor at Hilton, University Prep at Rush-Henrietta and Canandaigua at Brockport.
Brighton, a state finalist in Class A in 2025, remains at No. 1 in the other Super 10 poll for large schools going into Week 3 of the season in Section
V football.
The large schools rankings include teams in Class AA and Class A, while the small schools rankings include teams in Class B, Class C and Class D.
Democrat and Chronicle writers Justin Ritzel, Jeff Uveino and James Johnson determine the rankings. Each reporter lists who they believe are the best 10 teams from large and small schools in Section V.
The No. 1 teams on each list receive 10 points, the No. 2 teams receive nine points, the No. 3 teams receive eight points and so on.
Two teams moved into the large schools Super 10 after Penfield dropped out. East Rochester/Gananda is out among the small schools, leaving room for a newcomer to that group.
Section V football Super 10, large school
1. Brighton(2-0) - Class A - 30 points (3 first place votes) - Last week: 1.
Rollout: The Bruins scored 21 points in the final 3:16 of the second quarter to pull away to a 36-point win over Irondequoit.
2. Hilton(2-0) - Class A - 26 points - Last week: 3.
Rollout: The Cadets have clobbered their first two opponents. The first real test may come Friday night at home against Victor.
3. Rush-Henrietta (2-0) - Class AA - 24 points - Last week: 5.
Rollout: The Royal Comets may be the team to beat in Section V Class AA. A convincing win over University Prep leaves no doubt.
4. Victor (2-0) - Class A - 17 points - Last week: 6T.
Rollout: Victor faces its toughest assignment yet Friday night. The Blue Devils play at Hilton, a team that has outscored its two opponents, 100-48.
5. Canandaigua(2-0) - Class A - 16 points - Last week: 6T.
Rollout: Week 1 and 2 were no problems for the Gray Wolves. Friday night, the Gray Wolves are at Brockport. High school teams can change quite a bit from year to year, but the Brockport Blue Devils defeated Canandaigua, 16-14, during last season's sectional semifinals.
6. Webster Schroeder (1-1) - Class A - 11 points - Last week: 6T.
Rollout: Schroeder tries to get on a roll this Friday. The Warriors go after back-to-back wins, when they take on Penfield.
7. University Prep (1-1) - Class AA - 10 points - Last week: 2.
Rollout: Big drop after falling to Liverpool in the Syracuse region. You better believe UPrep rises again, if it wins Friday night at Rush-Henrietta.
8. Pittsford(1-1) - Class AA - 9 points - Last week: 4.
Rollout: It says something that the Panthers remain in this top 10 after suffering their first loss. Rush-Henrietta was the team that delivered the bad news to Pittsford. The Panthers want to bounce back Friday night at Sutherland, against Fairport.
9. Churchville-Chili (2-0) - Class A - 5 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Rollout: Saints move into the Super 10 thanks to a 31-yard field goal kicked with seven seconds remaining by sophomore Austin Gefell. "Our snapper, holder and kicker are all sophomores," Saints coach Dennis Pynn said.
10. (tied) Irondequoit(1-1) - Class A - 3 points - Last week: 6T.
Rollout: It says something that the Eagles remain among the Super 10. They were thumped last week at Brighton, 42-7. The Eagles are on their home field Friday night, against Spencerport (0-2).
10. (tied) Brockport(1-1) - Class AA - 3 points - Last week: Not ranked.
Rollout: The Blue Devils' first win moves them into the Super 10. But Canandaigua, Brockport's next opponent, probably is a stronger team than Greece Arcadia.

Section V football Super 10, small school
1. Monroe(2-0) - Class B - 30 points (3 first place votes) - Last week: 1.
Rollout: It's bowl season for the Monroe Red Jackets. The Class B state champions play at East High on Friday night. The Tree Bowl determines the winner of the Rochester City Athletic Conference.
2. East High/World of Inquiry (1-0) - Class B - 27 points - Last week: 2.
Rollout: Friday night, when the Eagles host Monroe in a game named the Tree Bowl, is one of two games this season that East High/World of Inquiry is the underdog. The other is October 23 at Rush-Henrietta.
3. Alexander/Pembroke (2-0) - Class C - 24 points - Last week: 3.
Rollout: The Defenders continue to take care of business. Last season's Section V Class C champions were ahead 29-0 before defeating a good Letchworth/Perry/Warsaw team, 36-16.
4. Avon(2-0) - Class D - 21 points - Last week: 4.
Rollout: That's one shutout and two wins by a combined score of 99-12 for the Riverhawks. Avon hosts Geneseo/Mount Morris (1-1) on Friday night.
5. Honeoye Falls-Lima (1-1) - Class B - 14 points - Last week: 6T.
Rollout: The Cougars stayed calm and came from behind to win 20-13 at Eastridge, a team in Section V Class A. "We're kind of used to playing with our backs against the wall," HF-L coach John Russ said.
6. LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford (2-0) - Class C - 14 points - Last week: 6T.
Rollout: Two touchdown runs and a touchdown pass by quarterback Brady McClurg moved the Rivals over Bath Haverling last weekend. The team's next home game is Friday night at LeRoy's Hartwood Park against Hornell/Arkport/Canaseraga.
7. Batavia Notre Dame/Byron-Bergen (1-0) - Class D - 13 points - Last week: 8.
Rollout: Livingston County/Genesee Region team climbs another spot in the Super 10, thanks to an 18-7 win over Canisteo-Greenwood (1-1).
8. York/Pavilion (2-0) - Class B - 7 points - Last week: 10T.
Rollout: The Golden Knights take two steps upward after making their debut in the Super 10 and then defeating Attica, 21-14. A win over Canisteo-Greenwood (1-1) on Friday night at York pushes York/Pavilion even higher.
9. (tied) Letchworth/Perry/Warsaw (1-1) - Class C - 4 points - Last week: 5.
Rollout: Letchworth/Perry/Warsaw lost last week, but it was to Alexander/Pembroke, the top-ranked Section V Class C team in the Super 10.
9. (tied) Oakfield-Alabama/Elba (1-1) - Class C - 3 points - Last week: Not ranked
Rollout: The Aggies make their debut in the Super 10, just in time for their first real test of the season. The Attica Blue Devils come to Oakfield-Alabama, 7 p.m. Friday.
Also received votes: Canisteo-Greenwood (Class D, 1-1), Sodus/Lyons (Class C, 2-0).
