For the 10th consecutive year, Wegmans Food Markets has been included on the People Companies That Care list, published by People magazine and Great Place To Work.
For 2026, the Rochester-based grocery store chain landed at No. 2, behind Delta Airlines (No. 1) and ahead of Publix Super Markets (No. 4) and Hilton (No.9).
The list debuted in 2017, and this year's is based on more than 1.3 million employee survey responses. Of those, nearly 970,000 came from workers at elegible companies, and the rankings are based on that feedback.
“Companies also submit essays that are validated by employee survey data to give a complete picture of the way an organization cares for its employees, its community, and the planet,” People said in a statement.
To be eligible
for the list, companies must be Great Place To Work Certified and have at least 10 U.S. employees.
Certification requires companies to pay an annual fee.

“We are proud to be recognized on the People Companies that Care list. Caring is our number one value, and this honor reflects the culture our employees create every day through the care they show for one another, our customers, and our communities,” Colleen Wegman, president and CEO of Wegmans, said in a statement. “We are grateful that our values are made visible through our people’s actions every day.”
Said Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place To Work: “Employees are under immense pressure, and the best workplaces are finding ways to support them in the ways they need.”
In 2025, Wegmans was ranked No. 1 on the Fortune Best Workplaces in Retail list.
