Swimming at the beach at Kershaw Park in Canandaigua will end for the season Saturday, Aug. 22.
The reason is not due to the presence of harmful algal blooms, which forced its closure for several days earlier in the month.
According to city officials, there is not enough staff to safely operate after this Saturday.
“We have had a wonderful summer, and we would like to thank all of our lifeguards and beach staff for all you do to keep the public safe!” the city noted in the post on its website. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

When is the Kershaw Park beach open this week?
With rain in the forecast, today may not be the best day for swimming.
But here are the beach hours for the remainder of the season: 11 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Aug. 20; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 21; and 11 a.m. to 3
p.m. Aug. 22, when, with apologies to Don Henley of The Eagles, the summer's out of reach and the boys and girls of summer have gone.
Were harmful algal blooms reported on Canandaigua Lake?
TheCanandaigua Lake Watershed Association reported nine harmful algal blooms on the lake during the week ending Aug. 14.
That brings the total to 28 bloom reports this season, most on both sides of the north end and the middle of the lake. Most of the blooms have been relatively light, according to the Watershed Association.
