Two large sinkholes developed overnight at a condominium complex in Penfield, prompting the evacuation of some residents, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Around midnight Monday, Sept. 14, Monroe County sheriff's deputies and the Monroe County Water Authority responded to a water main break at the Forrest Hill condominium complex, just off Penfield Road near Panorama Plaza, said Sgt. Alexander Brooks of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies found at least two sinkholes had developed and "undermined a large section of roadway" on Penn Lane, Brooks said.
Some residents evacuated
Penfield's Code Enforcement Office responded and determined that condominiums along a section of Penn Lane were "uninhabitable" because of the road damage
and its proximity to the residences, Brooks said.
The Monroe County Water Authority shut off water service to the affected area.
Because the road is privately owned, Forrest Hill's property management will coordinate repairs, according to the Sheriff's Office. The Red Cross was contacted to assist residents who were displaced.
Residents with questions or who need assistance retrieving their property are asked to contact Forrest Hill or Penfield Code Enforcement.
