New York State Police have released additional details on the deadly officer-involved shooting at a Greene County campground Monday, including that the weapon displayed by a camper was a pistol-style BB gun.

Troopers identify man killed
Troopers on Tuesday identified the man who died in the encounter with a State Police trooper at the Whip-O-Will Campground in Cairo as Amir Hamza, 45. Troopers did not disclose his hometown.
Initial call to campground
New York State Police were called to the Whip-O-Will Campground, 644 Route 31 in Cairo, around 8:20 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, to investigate a report of an assault involving two men.
During the 911 call, an ongoing potential domestic incident could be heard in the background, according to State Police.
Troopers found
a man who had suffered a head injury at the campground and were directed to a nearby camper, where they found Hamza, according to State Police.
The injured man was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment and was in stable condition, troopers said.
Man approaches police with BB gun
Troopers approached the camper, knocked on the door and announced, "State Police," according to authorities.
Hamza then exited the camper and approached the troopers while extending his right arm and pointing a black pistol-style gun at a trooper, State Police said.
The trooper moved to the side, drew his service weapon and fired, striking Hamza.
Troopers provided immediate medical care, including CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator, until emergency medical technicians took over lifesaving efforts at the scene. Hamza was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation determined that the weapon possessed by Hamza was a black pistol-style BB gun.
State Police did not release the names of the troopers involved in the shooting.

The New York Attorney General's Office and the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Catskill are investigating the trooper-involved shooting death.
