A 36-year-old Freedom man was killed early Sunday after his vehicle left the road and struck a tree in Cattaraugus County, according to New York State Police.
The crash happened at about 5:28 a.m. on State Route 98 in the town of Freedom.
Vehicle rolled before striking tree
State Police said a 2021 Ford Explorer driven by Phillip E. Schramm, 36, of Freedom, was traveling east on State Route 98 near Galen Hill Road when it left the roadway.
The SUV rolled once before coming to rest against a tree, troopers said.
Schramm was ejected from the vehicle.
Driver pronounced dead at scene
Troopers and emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Schramm was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Olean General Hospital for an autopsy.
