It's time to take a look at the standout performers from Section V.
Your vote will determine who will be the Turf Masters Boys Sports Athlete of the Week for September 14-20. The players' credentials are listed above the poll — which will be live until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will be announced on our Instagram page Thursday.
The nominees are chosen by our sports reporters. If you would like to call attention to an athlete's performance to be considered for the nomination, please email sports@democratandchronicle.com. All athletes who play on Section V boys teams are eligible to be nominated.
Now, let's meet the candidates.
Ben Canary
Mount Morris soccer player had two goals and two assists in his team’s 4-0 shutout win over Friendship-Scio on Saturday.
Adrian Colangelo
Penfield soccer goalkeeper picked up a pair of shutouts for the Patriots, who opened the week with a scoreless tie against Victor then defeated Fairport on Saturday. Colangelo had four saves in the latter.
Reagan Corey
Palmyra-Macedon soccer goalie preserved a scoreless tie against Penn Yan on Thursday with 17 saves.
Jake Fisher
Greece Athena soccer player who scored six goals and two assists across three games. Fisher also is a kicker on the Athena football team.
Alexis Gonzalez
Gates Chili volleyball senior dished out 30 assists in a five-set win over Brockport before recording 31 assists in a sweep of Canandaigua.
Desmond Hill
Marcus Whitman junior won the 5K race at the Kota-Reis Invitational, a cross country meet at Byron-Bergen. Hill ran the course in 16 minutes, 3.7 seconds, a little less than 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Kolton Knapp
Bloomfield golf team member who shot the lowest scores at two Finger Lakes West matches. Knapp had a five-over par 41 at Winged Pheasant Golf Links in Shortsville and then a one-under par 35 at Parkview Fairways, where he had birdies at five of the nine holes.
Levi Russell
Fillmore soccer player scored five of his team’s six goals in a win over Bolivar-Richburg on Friday.
Thomas Steele
McQuaid senior was the winner of a 5K race during the Newark Cross Country Invitational at Silver Hill Tech Park. Steele was the only runner in the varsity race to finish in 17 minutes or less, crossing the line in 16:42.
Myles Weaver
Rush-Henrietta volleyball junior led the Royal Comets offensively in two victories, including a 16-kill performance against Victor/Honeoye Falls-Lima. He also recorded seven kills against Webster.
