A 62-year-old woman died after a house fire early Thursday morning in Chenango County, according to New York State Police.
Troopers from SP Norwich, along with firefighters from the Norwich City and Preston fire departments, responded around 2:30 a.m. Aug. 20 to a report of a house fire at 660 County Road 4 in the town of Preston.
Troopers arrived to find the residence fully engulfed in flames.
Woman found dead inside home
Neighbors told authorities the 62-year-old female tenant might still be inside the residence. They said they attempted to contact her but were unsuccessful.
Firefighters later found the woman deceased inside the home.
Investigation continues
Members of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Chenango County fire investigators responded to assist with the investigation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
