OurBus is offering a new travel bundle from Brockport and the Rochester area to make traveling to New York City more affordable and accessible for college students.
OurBus is an intercity transportation platform that connects more than 300 destinations nationwide through collaborative efforts with charter bus, van and taxi companies. Their new bundled service will connect New York City to Colgate, SUNY Morrisville, SUNY Oswego and Brockport and Rochester (via an extra taxi leg).
“ We connect the passengers to the buses. What we have noticed is many of the bookings that come from Rochester have the brockport.edu domain name on the emails. SUNY Brockport students or College of Brockport students, rather, are using the route,” said Axel Holman,
co-founder of OurBus.
More than 50% of bookings come from college students on varying days throughout the year. Holman hopes to make campuses like SUNY Brockport more accessible for students and their families. OurBus will be collaborating with Rochester-based taxi services to assist with transportation for the new bundle services.
OurBus offers a new travel service from Brockport to NYC
The service is primarily designed for off-peak travel seasons, combining scheduled OurBus routes from New York City with a pre-arranged taxi connection to select campuses.
The new ticket offerings include one-way or round-trip:
- Rochester-NYC, including a taxi from Rochester to Brockport (SUNY Brockport), starting at $110 for one way
- Syracuse-NYC, including a taxi from Syracuse to Oswego (SUNY Oswego), starting at $140 for one way
- Binghamton-NYC, Option 1, including a taxi from Binghamton to Hamilton (Colgate University), starting at $140 for one way
- Binghamton-NYC, Option 2, including a taxi from Binghamton to Morrisville (SUNY Morrisville), starting at $140 for one way
Taxi connections are scheduled in advance, and OurBus dispatchers coordinate directly with local taxi operators to monitor arrivals and adjust for delays if necessary. Taxis may be shared by up to three passengers connecting from the same bus.
OurBus plans to continue operations with direct buses from rural campuses to New York City, Long Island, and other suburban destinations. ”There's a ton of college students who don't have a car, and at these rural and small town campuses it can be very isolating if there isn’t transportation available,” Holman said.
The new service is not limited to college students.
