New York will mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a memorial flag at the state Capitol, flags flown at half-staff and 17 landmarks illuminated in red, white and blue.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday that a 9/11 Memorial Flag will fly over the New York State Capitol and Empire State Plaza from Sept. 8 through Sept. 11.

Hochul also directed flags on state buildings to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Friday, Sept. 11, in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the attacks.
The victims included 84 employees of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and 40 state employees from the Department of Tax and Finance, according to the governor's office.
“As our country marks the 25th anniversary of
the September 11 terror attacks, New Yorkers continue to carry the weight of this unimaginable tragedy,” Hochul said. “Flying the 9/11 memorial flag is a reminder that we must ‘never forget’ to honor the lives lost, pay tribute to our brave first responders and ensure future generations understand the courage and sacrifice New Yorkers showed in our darkest hour.”

The following landmarks will be illuminated red, white and blue on the evening of Sept. 11:

- Kosciuszko Bridge
- H. Carl McCall SUNY Building
- State Education Building
- Alfred E. Smith State Office Building
- Empire State Plaza
- State Fairgrounds Main Gate and Expo Center
- Niagara Falls
- Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge
- Grand Central Terminal Pershing Square Viaduct
- Albany International Airport Gateway
- Lake Placid Olympic Center
- MTA LIRR East End Gateway at Penn Station
- Fairport Lift Bridge over the Erie Canal
- Moynihan Train Hall
- Roosevelt Island Lighthouse
