The East Lake Road bridge in the Ontario County town of Richmond is scheduled to be replaced in 2028, but Ontario County wants residents and motorists to learn more about what is planned and why it's necessary sooner rather than later.
A public informational meeting is scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Richmond Town Hall, 8690 Main St., Honeoye.
Representatives from Ontario County and the project's design engineering firm will explain project maps, share timelines and answer questions.
What is being proposed in Richmond?
The existing bridge on East Lake Road, or County Road 33, is roughly 250 feet south of Brookview Drive and spans Mill Creek.
The bridge was originally constructed in 1939 and rehabilitated in 1993.
However, county officials said the structure is experiencing
severe structural deterioration. Also, Mill Creek is eroding the structure from underneath.
What happens after the meeting in Richmond?
The county plans to put the construction contract out for public bid in fall 2027.
Construction is scheduled to run from April 2028 to October 2028.
What about traffic?
County officials said East Lake Road will remain open to traffic, and all residents living along the road will maintain access to their properties throughout the project.
Construction will be completed in two phases using onsite, temporary one-lane detours controlled by traffic signals.
