After a 50-year broadcasting career, longtime Rochester radio host Scott Spezzano is hanging up his microphone, he announced this week.
Spezzano, who will turn 65 in December, announced plans to leave his radio show at the end of the year. He shared the news on social media and during his radio show Thursday.
Spezzano, co-host of The Breakfast Buzz on 98.9 The Buzz with Sandy Waters, said he will leave the show at the end of the year. His final show is scheduled for Dec. 18, which also marks the 50th anniversary of his radio career, he said.
"I started doing this when I was a kid," Spezzano said on the air Thursday. "And somehow, while I was busy coming in every morning and doing another show, 50 years happened."
Spezzano and Sandy
Spezzano has been paired with co-host
Sandy Waters since 1999. The duo hosted the morning show on 98 PXY for 15 years before they moved to The Buzz in 2014.
Waters will continue in her role on The Breakfast Buzz.
Spezzano has been known for putting himself in uncomfortable situations over the years to raise money and awareness for community agencies and campaigns.
In one example, he camped for days on the roof of The Marketplace mall in Henrietta, despite heavy rain, to raise money for the Salvation Army's Homeless Holiday Campaign.
What's next for Scott Spezzano?

Spezzano said during Thursday's broadcast that he has "no idea" what he plans to do next, but he expects to spend more time with his family.
He emphasized that he is "not retiring" or "disappearing."
"I'm just closing one really big chapter and figuring out what the next one looks like," he said.
