ORCHARD PARK - There may not be another team in the NFL that is more comfortable getting into a high-scoring shootout than the Buffalo Bills. In fact, coach Joe Brady admitted the other day that with Josh Allen as his quarterback, touchdowns are the expectation every time he takes the field to begin a possession.
“With the crew that we have, I'm pissed every time we don't (score a TD) if I'm being honest, and that's not cocky,” Brady said. “It's hard to score in this league, it’s hard every time we get the ball, and I don't do anything, I don't even play, right? But I believe in the men in that locker room, so whether it's sustainable or not, it's like, ‘Hey, what do we have to do this week?’ And we're going to do everything we can to find ways
to get in the end zone.”
Sunday at Highmark Stadium, the Bills may need to win another shootout because the Los Angeles Chargers, led by quarterback Justin Herbert, are certainly capable of scoring against a Buffalo defense that is still trying to find its way.
The question will be, can the Chargers do enough to outscore a Bills offense that is humming like this?

The Bills have had 18 possessions in the first two games not counting end of half kneel down situations, and they have scored 10 touchdowns. They lead the NFL in points per play at 0.636 and they can become the fourth team in NFL history to score at least 35 points and record 400-or-more total yards of offense in each of their first three games of a season, joining the 2013 Denver Broncos (first six games), 2007 New England Patriots (three) and the 2000 St. Louis Rams (three).
Allen, of course, is never satisfied. As good as the start has been - especially the 36 points against a great Houston defense - Allen said there’s more in the Buffalo offense.
“I still feel like throwing the football, I gotta be more in charge of what my body's doing, what my mechanics are doing,” Allen said. “It's a weekly fight, trying to not go back to old mechanics and feel like I'm in a good spot. But I can continue to find ways to get the ball out of my hand better.”
You wonder what the rest of the NFL thinks about that? The guy just became the first player in history to have five TD passes and four rushing TDs in the first two games of a season.
"I don't like using the word unicorn, but he's special, there's no doubt about it," Chargers defensive coordinator Chris O'Leary said. "For a guy with that speed to run, power to run, arm strength down the field, accuracy, decision making, all of it. He's the total package. We're excited for the challenge, but we definitely respect what he can do."
