Showers and thunderstorms are possible across parts of western and north-central New York on Thursday, with some storms capable of producing locally heavy rain and strong, gusty winds, according to the
National Weather Service in Buffalo.
The weather outlook covers the Rochester, Buffalo, Finger Lakes and surrounding areas.
Storm chances increase Thursday afternoon
Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected Thursday afternoon and evening, particularly in areas well inland from Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.
For areas including Monroe, Niagara, Orleans, Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties, the National Weather Service said some storms could produce localized heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible farther east, including in Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Oswego, Lewis, Livingston, Ontario and Allegany counties.
No severe weather watches or warnings are currently in effect, and spotter activation is not expected.

The unsettled weather could continue into Friday, with showers and thunderstorms possible across the region.
