The Town of Greece will acquire property at the Greece Ridge Mall to develop new housing on the south end of the property.
The two parcels, totaling 13 acres, are parking lots west and south of True Storage.
Empire State Development will provide $5 million to the town for the purchase of the property. From there, the town will request and manage proposals for housing development, with an emphasis on building housing for senior citizens and other mixed-use opportunities.
“We’re excited to be able to bring more opportunities for Greece’s older adults to stay in our community, and as a result, to make more single-family homes available for young families to purchase,” Greece Town Supervisor Jeff McCann wrote in a statement.

The funding comes in support
of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s Pro-Housing Communities program, which opens up certain discretion funding to communities with the required certification. There are 14 certified communities in Monroe County, including Greece. Hochul’s administration is in the final year of a five-year, $25 billion housing plan to create or preserve 100,000 affordable homes across the state.
“This project in the Town of Greece will result in additional resources for the community, working as an effective vehicle for aligning housing with local economic development efforts,” Hochul said in a statement.
Project has parallels to Marketplace Senior Apartments in Henrietta
In the announcement by Empire State Development, comparisons were drawn to the Marketplace Senior Apartments, built at Marketplace Mall in Henrietta. The interior of The Marketplace mall closed at the end of 2025 and plans were announced this spring to turn that space into a new home for Mary Cariola Center, the Golisano Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Institute and additional clinical space.
Wilmorite owns both the Greece Ridge and Marketplace malls.
“Wilmorite is excited to see the interest in housing development at Greece Ridge Center and happy to accommodate by transferring land to the Town of Greece to let Town leadership build the housing mix they deem best suited for the area,” said Wilmorite Management Group president Thomas C. Wilmot Jr. in a statement.
