A Yates County man has been accused of causing the death of a toddler last year and is facing felony charges.
Penn Yan man charged in toddler's death
David Ingalls, 26, of Penn Yan was indicted on three charges in connection with the June 2025 death of a toddler, according to the Yates County Sheriff's Office:
- Second-degree manslaughter, a felony
- Criminally negligent homicide, a felony
- Endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor
What happened
Emergency responders were called to a residence on State Route 364 in the town of Potter around 5:30 p.m. June 25, 2025, after receiving a report that a toddler in the home was "unresponsive and not breathing," deputies said.
The toddler was transported to Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan, where the child was pronounced dead.
Deputies did not disclose additional details about the child's death or Ingalls' alleged involvement.
A Yates County grand jury indicted Ingalls
after a prosecutor from the Wayne County District Attorney's Office presented the case, deputies said.
Ingalls was apprehended without incident and taken to the Yates County Jail.
