A Hyde Park teacher was arrested after state police investigated a report that he allegedly pinched two nonverbal students at an Abilities First facility.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Rhinebeck began investigating Aug. 5 after receiving a report of an incident involving a staff member and students at the facility in the town of Hyde Park.
Police identified the teacher as Ibrahim Mohammed, 54, of Hyde Park.
Teacher charged with endangering welfare of a child
As a result of the investigation, Mohammed was arrested Aug. 14 and charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor.
Police said the charges stem from allegations that Mohammed pinched two nonverbal students.
Mohammed was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in
Hyde Park Town Court at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 27.
The charges are allegations, and Mohammed is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
